The man has openly said it multiple times:In his 2005 state of the nation address: “The collapse of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century.”
In his July 2021 essay “On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians” — basically a manifesto claiming Ukraine is not a real nation, just “artificial” Russian territory that must be “reunited.”
In speeches since 2022: Repeated references to “historical Russia,” “Novorossiya” (New Russia), and the “Russian world” that must be reclaimed.
