This is going to be a MIXED EMOTION post.... Today was Opening Day today for Softball (Youth Leagues) at Pulaski Park (so, 12+ Teams with entourages where there ALL AT ONCE, vs a normal Sat when Parking is a problem already, for the entire morning and most of the Afternoon) as well as very sadly coincidentally timed same weekend as Wyandotte City Wide Garage Sales (of which I am taking part) so Parking was 100 times worse than a normal Sat (vs normal Ball days) during the Summer with Games going on at the Park already and combination of everything making it all 1,000 times worse than normal Saturdays. That is just the setup... NOW....
First THE GOOD THING... I am very much FOR our LEOs being involved in our Community and building good relations with our Youth most time (most places, such builds good relations and less confrontation and "negative sentiments" ) and reduced over Crime! So that there were 4 Wyandotte LEOs at Pulaski on the BasketBall Courts with Youth A GOOD THING.
HOWEVER, now the STUPID and BAD part.... With all going on there was absolutely nowhere close to enough Parking and people looping about and around the Blocks hoping for Spaces to open to Park in - and the 4 LEOs that came in 2 Vehicles PARKED THEIR ASSES ON SOUTHBOUND 12TH STREET and walked into the Park. This created MORE HAZARDS FOR BOTH PEDESTRIANS AND VEHICLE TRAFFIC! Now, times past, we'd seen the Police DRIVE their SUVs up into the Gate area and into the Park - THEY SHOULD HAVE (very slowly, very carefully) DONE THAT HERE and NOT create havoc and hazard on 12th WHEN THERE WAS NOT AN EMERGENCY SITUATION!!! Those Vehicles needed to be up and out of the Way, and only way would have been to taken them onto/into the Park and then put them next to the BasketBall Courts!!!!
So, Wyandotte PD you deserve FOUR STARS with that caveat keeping you from a full Five Stars.
Keep up the good work, but next time THINK IT ALL THROUGH!
