A New York City parking garage attendant was charged with attempted murder after an alleged violent confrontation with a thief. The attendant was shot twice during the reported robbery attempt, but managed to wrestle away the perp's gun and fire back at the alleged thief.
Moussa Diarra, 57, has been charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon for his reaction to a thuggish robbery attempt in Manhattan, according to the New York Post.
Around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, a New York City man was reportedly looking into cars at a garage on West 31st Street. Diarra suspected that the man was looking for a car to steal. He asked the man to go outside and questioned him about the contents of a bag he was holding.
The man, Charles Rhodie, allegedly pulled out a gun and Diarra attempted to snatch the firearm. However, the gun was fired and shot Diarra in the stomach and another bullet grazed his ear. Diarra allegedly turned the gun on the shooter and shot Rhodie in the chest.
Both men were rushed to Bellevue Hospital and said to be in stable condition.
Rhodie, 59, was charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and burglary, according to police.
The murder charge against the New York City parking garage attendant are similar to the headline-grabbing incident of a Manhattan bodega clerk acting in self-defense.
Last July, New York City deli worker Jose Alba was attacked by an angry customer. In self-defense, Alba fatally stabbed the man in the neck.
However, the office of Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg charged Alba with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Alba was sent to Rikers Island prison. Following public outrage, the charges against Alba were dropped and the bodega clerk was released from prison after six days. Bragg's office admitted that there was not enough evidence to prosecute Alba.
