LANCE HILLSINGER - BUILD A BETTER BRIDGE: SOCIAL POLICY FOR THE 21ST CENTURY review: 
I had the honor of being on the SAVAGED UNFILTERED podcast when Lance Hillsinger was a guest (ep 336, Oct 18 (https://open.spotify.com/episode/0LJCZLkkggWvQBhjFI7ePk)) and we (Michael and I) had a great interview with him. We certainly are not in-sync on everything, but now having a copy of his book in-hand I must say: "An important book for our time, important things to think about and needing attention (need to care, but SMARTLY)..." One does NOT have to be Religious to believe in the concept of BEING OUR BROTHERS KEEPER, many Atheists hold that tenant too, the question is HOW DO WE DO THAT EFFICIENTLY, and to my mind Government does VERY LITTLE effectively or efficiently and we need Return to Charities being the main focus and function of Welfare (those closest to the people and the problems LOCALLY) but we certainly all agreed that Govt has a Role in protecting Childrens' physical (as they do in protection of all Citizens') well being from assault (Rule Of Law). So, bottom-line, I hope you'll give "BUILD A BETTER BRIDGE" from Lance a chance (yes, bad pun rhyme intended) and honest/open hearing (well, er, of course, I mean, Reading) as we move forward - as if America (Cloward and Piven) is Bankrupted, it will not be able to help anyone let alone provide the safety-net let alone safety-hammock some have come to call today's Welfare State. Plus, like Lance starts going into on page 18 the need of FATHERS (both Parents, to be in the Lives of Children in some-way-shape-or-form (but, of course, the best: A full intact Family)) to raise a well-balanced person and stats show those who come from a two-parent (if not, again, even fully intact, but where both Parents have positive Roles in the Kids lives) are less likely to continue the cycle of Poverty (but, human nature, as well as Jesus saying: The Poor shall always be among you, and how/why the Bradford Colony (long before Marx) was failing until what became the staples of America's Foundations were instituted were put in place almost all starved to death).

Again, bottom-line, we have to learn from history (both failings and positive outcomes) and what WORKS vs what is someone's INTENTIONS. Results matter (to put it back in Biblical terms: You shall know them by their Fruits [not their rhetoric]), and, IMO, the current system is failing. We can, and must, for those in the cart, and those expected to pull the cart, DO BETTER.
